UNCLE ALBERT
Steve Strayhorn

STEVE STRAYHORN, drums & vocals
Steve Strayhorn was a "pots and pans baby." His mom gave him wooden spoons to beat on the kitchenware when he was a toddler, and at age 7, he started beating on the real thing. Since then, he said, he's never spent a week of his life without playing the drums in some form.
Steve joined Uncle Albert four years ago, because he believed he could be a part of the great rapport the band members had - and he has stayed because he was right. The other three were friends of his before he joined Uncle Albert, and he said they'll be his friends long after this band. And, he said, "at this point in my life, there's no other way to play than with my friends."
Steve's musical career has been full of highlights, he said, the best of which is yet to come. He decided he wanted to be a musician when he saw the Beatles perform on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1963. He wanted to travel the world and play to big crowds - "and tour the highway rest stops along the way," Steve said. Well, he has done all of that, singing and playing drums with a wide variety of musical groups, including rock bands Full Moon Consort and Griffin, fusion group Street Corner Symphony, and pop/dance group Arrow Memphis.
He said he simply has to make music. "It would be disruptive to my psyche not to be able to play," he said.
